PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an 81-year-old man shot his adult son before taking his own life.

They have not released the names of the men yet.

Authorities responded to a home near 52nd Street and Bell Road in northeast Phoenix around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.



Police found the victim with a gunshot wound in the back.

They say the victim’s father shot him and then himself.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the 49-year-old son was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the torso.

He’s listed in serious condition.

Investigators believe the two were in some sort of altercation before the father began shooting.
