BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A school’s assistant principal accused in the 2016 shooting death of a pregnant colleague will stand trial in August 2018.

The Advocate reports that a Baton Rouge state judge set 40-year-old Robert Jovantie Marks’ trial date for Aug. 6 on Monday. Marks is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree feticide in the death of 40-year-old Lyntell Washington and her unborn child.

Police have said Marks was the father of the unborn child.

Marks and Washington worked at Brookstown Middle Magnet School, where she was an instructional specialist.

Marks, who is married, pleaded not guilty to the charges in October 2016, and remains free on $500,000 bail.
