PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after he was attacked by four pit bulls at a Philadelphia home on Thanksgiving Day.

Police shot and killed one of the dogs when they tried to rescue the man, whose name has not been released. The other dogs then ran back into the home and were not injured.

It’s not yet known what sparked the attack, which occurred around 9 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of West Pike Street. The man was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.

No other injuries were reported in the attack, which remains under investigation.
