MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s rifle deer hunting season is coming to a close.
Sunday is the last day of the 16-day season. Hunters may only take one legal buck, which has at least one antler having two or more points.
Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department officials said after two mild winters the state’s deer population was estimated at about 157,000 before the hunt, with the greatest number found in the southwest, eastern-central and northwestern parts of the state.
Hunters still have a chance to get a deer this year. Muzzleloader and a second archery season start Dec. 2 and run through Dec. 10.
