FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Maryland authorities are investigating a possible poaching incident after a hunter discovered the carcass of a black bear.

Authorities say the bear, which was found Saturday near Frederick, was killed out of season.

Officials believe the bear was shot less than 24 hours before its body was found on the first day of deer firearm season.

Bear hunting season in Maryland was Oct. 23 through Oct. 26

Authorities say the bear was about 7 years old and weighed 437 pounds.
