BELTON, Texas (AP) - The operator of an unlicensed day care center in Central Texas has been indicted in the death of a toddler found in a car seat with a strap around his neck.
Prosecutors say a Bell County grand jury Wednesday indicted 27-year-old Courtney Seleste Casanas on a charge of criminally negligent homicide. Jail records Friday didn’t immediately list bond or attorney information for Casanas.
Killeen police identified the victim as 1-year-old Jaxson Partridge. The boy had been left an in-home day care center.
Investigators say a caretaker in May found the youngster unresponsive with a car seat safety strap around his neck. Jaxson died July 8 at a Temple hospital.
The victim’s grandmother, Eisa Reed, said last month that she and other relatives thought the day care was legitimate.
