DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A judge has granted a defense request to move a man’s homicide trial out of Dubuque County.
Twenty-one-year-old Helmon Betwell already has pleaded not guilty to murder, sexual assault and burglary charges. He’s accused of attacking 66-year-old Nancy Krapfl on Sept. 1, 2015, as she was walking in Dubuque.
Betwell’s attorneys had said in their motion for a change of venue that extensive media coverage of the case harmed his chances of having a fair trial in Dubuque County. The judge agreed in an order signed Friday.
Where the trial will be held has not yet been determined.
