DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Uriel Hernandez kicked four field goals, Delwaun Beard blocked a field goal try as time expired, and Bethune-Cookman beat South Carolina State 12-9 on Saturday.

Beard blocked Tyler Scandrett’s 36-yard field goal attempt on South Carolina State’s final drive and Arthur Williams recovered the ball for the win.

Hernandez capped Bethune-Cookman’s opening drive with a 34-yard field goal, and later made kicks of 37, 32 and 33 yards, but missed a 20-yarder in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic) led 9-6 at halftime after Scandrett kicked a 34-yard field goal and Trey Samuel ran four yards for a TD and the Wildcats blocked the point-after attempt.

The Wildcats (3-3, 2-1) outgained the Bulldogs 371-261 in total offense, but couldn’t get the ball into the end zone and were stopped twice on downs.

Larry Brihm Jr. was 22 of 34 for 234 yards passing for the Wildcats. Diquan Richardson grabbed his third interception of the season.
