LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Lincoln man says he hopes an upcoming longboard race in the area will encourage more people to take up the sport.

Eric Rineer is participating this month in a longboard race that stretches nearly eight miles of nearby Rock Island Trail.

Rineer tells the Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/2xGp2ha ) he wants to further popularize longboarding in Lincoln. He’s joined group rides in California, Pennsylvania and Texas. He’s also skated 150 miles in Miami as part of 24-hour race.

Rineer, who picked up longboarding in recent years, says the sport has a small presence in the Midwest. He hopes to change that by bringing more exposure.

The newspaper reports the upcoming race on Oct. 29 is expected to bring out several dozen participants.
