DOVER, Del. (AP) - Caylin Newton threw for 285 yards and two scores and ran for 81 yards to lead Howard to a 52-23 win against Delaware State on Saturday.

The Bison had a season-high 628 offensive yards. Howard hadn’t scored more than 50 points in a game since 2014.

The game’s decisive play occurred when Elijah Anglin returned a fumble 96 yards for a touchdown before halftime to break a 10-all tie.

Howard (3-3, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic) then used a three touchdown third quarter to separate from Delaware State (0-6, 0-4) and put the game out of reach.

Newton threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Guy Lemonier Jr. on the Bison’s first play after the break to make it 24-10.

Kyle Anthony had six receptions for 135 yards and Jequez Ezzard had four catches for 104 yards for Howard.
