LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell at a Los Angeles jail.

Coroner’s officials say an autopsy is planned for the 50-year-old man who was discovered Saturday afternoon at the Metropolitan Detention Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/2yoAifw) the man was arrested two days earlier on suspicion of a misdemeanor offense. Details of the alleged crime aren’t available in online booking records. Bail was set at $20,000.

A police spokeswoman said Sunday that she could not immediately provide additional information about the death.
