AVON, Mass. (AP) - A woman working her first day at a new job as died while crossing a Massachusetts street to visit a friend for lunch.

The Norfolk district attorney’s office says 19-year-old Ariel Dineen, of Brockton, was crossing an Avon street at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday when she slipped and was hit by a passing Jeep.

Police Chief David Martineau says the roads were slick following rain.

Dineen was taken to the hospital with serious head trauma, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the Jeep stayed on the scene. No charges have been filed.

Martineau says Dineen was working her first shift at a Party City store and called her death a “terrible unfortunate accident.”
