PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia youth critically injured in a shooting during a fight last week has died, and charges against a suspect have been upgraded.

A spokesman for the city medical examiner’s office says 16-year-old Messiah Chiverton died Sunday of a gunshot wound to the head. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police say the Frankford High School junior was shot multiple times in the head last Wednesday in Philadelphia during a fight involving a group of high school students in the Oxford Circle neighborhood of northeast Philadelphia.

Eighteen-year-old Muhammed Goode is charged with murder and firearms counts. Investigators allege that he shot the victim and fired twice more into the crowd without hitting anyone else. Court documents don’t list a defense attorney; a listed number for him couldn’t be found Tuesday.
