FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an Alabama woman’s attempted escape from a traffic stop ended in a wreck that killed one man.

Lauderdale County Coroner Bruce Tucker told the TimesDaily that 28-year-old Jarnais Montes Porter was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday afternoon. State troopers say 24-year-old Larissa Bowlin had been hospitalized in critical condition after being ejected from the car.

Porter was a passenger inside the Lincoln that Bowlin was driving on U.S. Route 72 before she lost control and the vehicle flipped.

Killen Police Chief Bryan Hammond says a patrol unit had pulled the vehicle over for a traffic violation when the driver “took off… trying to get away from the officer.”

Hammond says he called state troopers to investigate the crash because his department made the initial traffic stop.
