FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) - A judge has declared a mistrial because of a deadlocked jury in the trial of a Maine man charged with killing another man in a dispute over a drug debt.
Law enforcement officials say 25-year-old Timothy Danforth of Wilton killed a man in June 2016 over a $200 bag of marijuana. The victim, 24-year-old Michael Reis of New Sharon, was struck three times by shotgun blasts outside the home of Danforth’s father.
A mistrial was declared Monday.
Assistant Attorney General Bud Ellis told jurors that Reis was unarmed while defense lawyer Sarah Glynn called it a case of self-defense. Danforth’s family dialed 911 and friends brought Reis to a hospital where he was declared dead.
