BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A Montana man has been sentenced to 80 years in prison in connection to the killing of a woman on New Year’s Eve.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/2xXjuxP ) Jay Witkowski was sentenced on Monday for deliberate homicide in the killing of 31-year-old Evelynn Garcia.

Charges say Witkowski stabbed Garcia before hitting her with a tire iron and later a car on Dec. 31.

Garcia was found on the side of a road by two men, who told deputies they saw a vehicle speed off. She died Jan. 3.

Investigators said Witkowski’s car had a broken windshield and blood in it. Officers also found a bloody tire iron.

Witkowski will be eligible for parole in 20 years if he follows his sentencing requirements for chemical dependency and other classes in prison.
