AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A Maine man has pleaded not guilty to charges of trying to murder a sheriff’s deputy during a Maine shootout with police.

Forty-year-old Scott Allen Bubar, of Brunswick, was shot during the shootout at a mobile home in Belgrade. Sixty-five-year-old Roger Bubar, Scott Allen Bubar’s father, was killed by police who returned fire in the shootout.

Bubar is charged with aggravated attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy and reckless conduct with a firearm. Bubar’s attorney said in court on Monday that Bubar has a substance abuse problem and would begin counseling if he made bail.

The Kennebec Journal (https://bit.ly/2fNnevb ) reports prosecutors say Bubar was barricaded inside the mobile home when he shot at numerous police officers responding to a neighbor’s call about a domestic disturbance.
