BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Police say they are investigating the attack on a University of California, Berkeley student who was beaten unconscious on campus by three men he says he didn’t know.

Oakland television station KTVU reports (https://bit.ly/2yDUF75) the student was walking home Sunday when he was attacked, unprovoked, outside Unit 3, a complex of high-rise dorms.

UC Berkeley police says the victim was taken to the hospital and released the same day. A friend of the victim says he was badly bruised and hit in the back.

Police say witnesses saw three men punched and beat the victim until he was unconscious. Some students said they heard yelling from their dormitory windows and that there may have been a verbal altercation before the attack.

Police have made no arrests.
