WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities say the driver of a tractor-trailer was injured when the vehicle overturned and caught fire while merging between interstates in Delaware.

Delaware State police said Sunday that the blaze at the Interstate 95 and I-295 split caused extensive damage to the roadway. Engineers were on the scene to survey any damage to an overpass.

Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a Delaware State Police spokesman, says the 55-year-old driver from Pageland, South Carolina, was taken to Christiana Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

Fournier says the tractor-trailer, which was carrying construction equipment, hit a construction impact attenuator. It overturned around 2:30 a.m.

Traffic delays were expected throughout the day.
