DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - Some southwestern Colorado residents are upset they were not notified of the possible development of a gas and oil field next to several homes.

The Durango Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2khsbOp ) the residents of the Shenandoah subdivision near Durango say they weren’t told of a public comment period that ends Oct. 10.

The Bureau of Land Management started the public comment period Sept. 7 for a lease sale, which is scheduled for March 8.

The newspaper contacted 10 to 15 residents Monday. No one contacted had heard of possible oil and gas development next to their homes.

The Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Shannon Borders says a news release was made public and letters were sent to affected property owners in June.
