TARRYTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - It’s the end of an often-bumpy era for New York’s old Tappan Zee (TAP’-uhn zee) Bridge over the Hudson River.

The state Thruway Authority says Westchester County-bound traffic was switched to the new Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge around 10 p.m. Friday.

Rockland County-bound traffic has been crossing the new span since late August. Now, drivers in both directions will share it for a while.

Workers will dismantle the old bridge and put the finishing touches on the second new span, which will open next year.
