GRAMPIAN, Pa. (AP) - State police say several people are in custody in connection with remains found in a remote part of west-central Pennsylvania.
The remains were found in Pike Township, about 100 miles (160.9 kilometers) northeast of Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris says Dennis Dirkmaat, a forensic anthropologist from Mercyhurst University is assisting the investigation. Dirkmaat is typically involved when human remains are badly decomposed or in a condition that would otherwise make them difficult to identify. Morris says unspecified “forensic countermeasures” may have been taken to make it harder to identify the body, which was found in a wooded area.
Police aren’t saying who has been charged or what crimes they face, only that there is no threat to the public.
Dental records may be needed to identify the victim.
