DUNCAN, S.C. (AP) - A man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of another man in South Carolina.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kevin Bobo tells local media 48-year-old Lawton Leroy Holloway was arrested Thursday and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Bobo says 33-year-old Jeremy Edgar Bell was found dead shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday at Holloway’s home in Duncan. County coroner Rusty Clevenger says Bell had been stabbed multiple times.

Bobo says Holloway told investigators that Bell tried to assault a woman, but the woman’s statement and evidence at the scene didn’t match Holloway’s story.

The incident remains under investigation. It’s unclear if Holloway has an attorney.
