CYNTHIANA, Ky. (AP) - Authorities charged a Kentucky man with four counts of attempted murder after a helicopter was fired on and shots were exchanged with law enforcement officers.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports 39-year-old Thomas Field VanMeter of Lexington was located Tuesday and taken to jail.
VanMeter is accused of firing at a helicopter contracted by Kentucky Utilities and deputies who pursued him in Harrison County. The charges include two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
The helicopter landed safely, and no one was injured.
VanMeter’s father, Tom VanMeter, told the newspaper he couldn’t talk about the case but was grateful his son was safely taken into custody and no one was injured.
