LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say California Highway Patrol officers fatally shot a man with a knife who was walking on Interstate 5 in Los Angeles.

The CHP says the officers initially used a stun gun on the man after he repeatedly refused orders to get out of the northbound lanes early Sunday near downtown.

Officials didn’t say what led up to the officers using deadly force. The man, who was not identified, was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene.

CHP Sgt. Saul Gomez says a knife was recovered.

Traffic was diverted out of northbound lanes prior to the shooting and during the subsequent investigation.
