WEST MILFORD, W.Va. (AP) - Police in West Virginia say an Ohio carjacking suspect who was shot after firing at officers has died.

State Police Sgt. Mark Kiddy tells The Exponent Telegram that the suspect died Sunday at a hospital in Bridgeport.

Harrison County Sheriff Robert Matheny says the man was among four suspects in an armed carjacking in the Columbus, Ohio area.

Matheny says the suspects’ vehicle had tripped a license-plate reader on Interstate 79 and later wrecked in the community of West Milford.

Kiddy says when deputies confronted one of the suspects along a bridge, he fired at officers and two sheriff’s deputies returned fire, striking the suspect.

Matheny says the other suspects were arrested without incident in town about eight hours later. It wasn’t immediately known what charges the suspects face.
