LINCOLN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 4-year-old girl is dead after the pickup truck she was riding in hit a utility pole in central New York.

The crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the town of Lincoln.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (https://bit.ly/2eQIAnG ) that the driver of the pickup lost control, veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

The Madison County sheriff’s office says the 4-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy were in the back seat in proper car seats.

Both children were taken to Upstate University Hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The boy is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the crash sheared the utility pole in half. National Grid was called to the scene to restore power.

The driver has not been charged.
