BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The fatal shooting of a man during a robbery marks Alabama’s largest city’s 73rd homicide so far this year.

AL.com reports Birmingham police on Tuesday identified the victim in the Monday night shooting as 26-year-old Jeremy Robinson.

Sgt. Bryan Shelton says Robinson and another man were talking in the courtyard of the Tom Brown Village public housing community when a man approached them with a rifle and robbed them, obtaining a handgun from Robinson’s companion. Police believe another man then opened fire with an assault rifle from across the courtyard.

Robinson was struck in the torso, and later pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.

The suspects fled the scene. No arrests have been made.

Robinson’s death was also the fourth in Jefferson County since Friday, and the 109th countywide this year.
