DENVER (AP) - Colorado officials say the Westminster police officers who shot and killed a man on June 30 followed proper procedure and won’t face criminal charges.
The Denver Post reported (https://dpo.st/2xLwZkc ) Wednesday that a letter from 17 Judicial District Attorney Dave Young to Westminster Police Chief Tim Carlson stated the two officers who shot Brett Rodriguez feared for their lives when Rodriguez began to draw a firearm from his waistband.
Rodriguez was wanted on a warrant for felony child abuse when he was spotted by authorities. The responding officers say they approached Rodriguez while he was sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. They say upon asking Rodriguez to show his hands, he leaned over, exposed a hand gun on his hip and reached for it. The officers then fired 14 to 15 times.
