COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police officials say a Colchester police dispatcher has been fired and cited for allegedly disclosing information about an ongoing federal investigation to a prostitute.
Officials say 41-year-old Earl Benway is accused of prohibited acts and obstruction of justice.
According to the Vermont State Police’s news release, the charges stem from occurrences in June. The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2xLP7dK ) police declined to disclose information about the federal investigation Benway is accused of obstructing.
Colchester Police Chief Jennifer Morrison says Benway had been a dispatcher since 2001. He was fired in September after an internal investigation.
It is unknown if Benway has retained a lawyer. Attempts to locate his phone number or reach him via Facebook were unsuccessful.
Benway is scheduled to appear in court in Burlington Oct. 10.
