PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Pine Bluff police say they will need assistance from the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock to identify human remains found in a wooded area behind a bank.

Officer Richard Wegner says the property’s new owner discovered the “completely skeletonized” remains Wednesday near Relyance Bank. Authorities say the remains were so decomposed that it’s unclear if they are of a male or female.

Authorities have sent the clothing and bones collected to the state Crime Laboratory for identification.

The death hasn’t been declared a homicide, but police are investigating it as one until the cause of death is determined.
