BELTON, S.C. (AP) - A sheriff’s office has confiscated 11 horses, five dogs, a goat and a duck from a South Carolina property after finding the horses living in poor conditions.

The Anderson Independent Mail reports that Anderson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Nikki Carson says the animals were seized Wednesday, a day after a deputy visited the property. A sheriff’s report says that visit was prompted by a tip that said the horses were living in “horrible conditions.”

The report says the deputy found several horses underweight or emaciated during the Tuesday visit. No food was available for any of the horses, and no water was available for six horses kept in a largely bare pasture.

It’s unclear what conditions the rest of the animals were living in.

No charges have yet been filed.
