MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - Officials of a western Nevada county say the state has launched a criminal investigation after allegations of tire theft and other crimes surfaced inside its public works department.

Douglas County officials say the county manager received information from two sources in March alleging criminal wrongdoing inside the department.

The information prompted the county district attorney’s office and the Nevada Investigation Division to begin looking into the issues.

Authorities have not released additional details about the investigations because they are ongoing.

County officials released a statement outlining steps they have taken to improve policies and procedures in the department in an attempt to reduce the risk of these issues from happening again.
