WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Officials at a Rhode Island high school say they’re investigating the possible distribution of powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl at the school.

WPRI-TV reports that Toll Gate High School Principal Candace Caluori said in an email to parents on Thursday and in a follow-up email sent Friday that a student may have been distributing fentanyl in the boy’s bathroom on Sept. 22.

Caluori says in the statement that officials are “actively investigating the situation.”

She says police K9s searched the Warwick building for drugs on Thursday. Officials say they have not yet verified whether fentanyl was being distributed at the school.
