CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - A judge has ruled that a New Jersey man facing murder charges in the death of his girlfriend’s four-year-old daughter will remain in custody until his trial.
Najuquan Ross is accused of beating Natalise Gunter on July 15 after she refused to eat dinner. The judge issued the order Tuesday after a public defender representing the 20-year-old Camden man had argued that the circumstances about the fatal beating are not certain
Camden County prosecutors say the child’s mother, 20-year-old Lucy Gunter, returned home from work to find her daughter had scratches to her face and a missing tooth. The girl was taken to a hospital but died three days later.
Lucy Gunter has been charged with child endangerment. Prosecutors say Ross threatened Gunter after the beating.
