DANVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities believe the stabbing death of a woman found on a Georgia road was drug-related.

News outlets report Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum says the body of 35-year-old Lauren Jones of Jeffersonville was found Monday afternoon near Danville. Mitchum says Jones was stabbed several times.

The sheriff says it’s unclear if the stabbing happened where the body was found, and investigators are looking at the possibility of a second crime scene. Investigators are not sure of how long the body had been in the remote area.

A small amount of methamphetamine was found near the body. Mitchum says persons of interest have been identified, but no arrests had been made.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case. An autopsy will be performed at the GBI Crime Lab.
