HOUSTON (AP) - Judges say damage to Houston’s downtown criminal courthouse from Harvey will force courtrooms to share space in different buildings and will likely delay most jury trials until October.

State District Judge Susan Brown said Wednesday all personnel are being moved out of the Harris County criminal courthouse. Criminal courts are moving into the nearby civil courthouse and the juvenile justice center.

Courts handling misdemeanor cases will be moved to the nearby Family Law Center.

Brown says the county’s court system is working to establish temporary locations and try cases as quickly as possible.

She says the county’s 22 criminal courts have about 900 cases that are set for trial.

Officials say all 20 of the criminal courthouse’s floors have some damage from Harvey.

The courthouse will be closed for at least eight months.
