SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man convicted of stabbing another man to death two years ago has been sentenced to life in prison.
The Republican reports that 26-year-old Ricardo Valentin was sentenced Wednesday in Hampden Superior Court. Valentin can apply for parole in 20 years.
Valentin was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old David Guasp.
Prosecutors say Guasp, of Springfield, was found suffering from a stab wound on Aug. 29, 2015. He died at the hospital.
Valentin’s lawyer, Nikolas Andreopoulos, argued at trial that his client stabbed Guasp out of fear during a confrontation between the two men, and that Guasp was the aggressor.
