ERWIN, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after two students were killed near Campbell University in what may have been a weather-related crash.

Campbell University officials say in a statement they were notified by the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office that wreck happened around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and that two students died as a result.

The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Brandon Patrick Punzalan of Wilmington and 18-year-old Judson Clint Regan of Roxboro.

Local news outlets report the crash happened on U.S. 421 southeast of the Buies Creek campus. It was raining heavily at the time of the crash.
