Authorities say officers were sent to the home about 5 p.m. Wednesday and tried to communicate with the man who is a person of interest in a shooting in Madison that critically injured a woman.

Tactical officers tried to enter the house shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday and saw a fire had started. Officials say the suspect was armed with a gun threatened to shoot officers.

The 42-year-old suspect finally surrendered to police about 2 a.m.
