HOUMA, La. (AP) - A Louisiana man accused of stealing thousands of dollars from two mentally disabled men will not receive a lower bond.

The Courier of Houma reports a judge didn’t reduce Joey Jonathan Folse’s $300,000 bond on Thursday. The 39-year-old was arrested in April and charged with two counts of theft of assets of an aged or disabled person.

Authorities say in 2016 one of the victims was pumping air into his vehicle’s tire when Folse seemingly tried to help by pumping the air. Folse claimed the tire’s valve struck him in the face and convinced the man to pay him $15,000 for his injuries. A Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office news release says Folse obtained the victims’ personal bank information and took over $200,000.

Folse is being represented by the public defender’s office.
