WHEATON, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say the 74-year-old driver of a motor scooter has died after a crash with a police cruiser.

Montgomery County Police said in a statement Thursday morning that detectives are still investigating what caused the scooter and unmarked cruiser to collide. Multiple witnesses have spoken with investigators about the crash that happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in Wheaton.

The statement says the scooter driver, Loreto Andal Canubas of Kensington, was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

The driver of the cruiser was Officer Robert Farmer, who wasn’t seriously hurt. Farmer, who was on duty, has been with the department for about eight and a half years.
