A woman has been arrested and accused of fatally shooting another woman in the head with a shotgun apparently without provocation during a card game, Glendale police said Thursday.

Dorothy Denitre Lee, 53, was arrested Wednesday in the killing of 57-year-old Linda Harris on Sept. 1 and booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The women were acquaintances and a motive for the shooting isn’t known, said Officer Tiffany Smith, a Glendale Police Department spokeswoman.

A police probable-cause statement said the shooting occurred in an apartment where five people were playing cards and drinking.

A man who lived in the apartment told police that a woman later identified by police as Lee “produced a shotgun,” pointed it at the back of Harris’ head and pulled the trigger, the statement said.

The man told police he jumped through a bedroom window after the shooting to escape the apartment when the woman with the shotgun attempted to point it at him before being restrained by her son, who was among the card players.

Others in the apartment then fled and investigators later identified and arrested Lee through interviews, surveillance video and other evidence, police said.

The probable-cause statement said the man, whose name was redacted from the statement, indicated the shooting was unprovoked and there were no issues between the women.

However, the statement said Lee told police during an interview that she had gotten upset in the apartment after hearing some “music that had been taken away from her” but would not elaborate.

Lee didn’t have an attorney who could comment on the allegations when she made an initial court appearance Thursday. She was ordered to remain jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.
