GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Residents of the Grand Forks area gobbled up more than four tons of french fries during an annual french fry feed in the city.

The event is held during the annual Potato Bowl week that celebrates the spud industry in the Red River Valley.

WDAZ-TV reports that participants ate 8,154 pounds of french fries on Thursday, mashing the event’s previous record of 5,220 pounds set in 2015.

The potatoes are supplied by the J.R. Simplot Co., which has a fry plant in Grand Forks.
