EDMONDS, Wash. (AP) - Police say an Everett man broke into a neighbor’s motel room in Edmonds with a crowbar, trashed his own room and threatened to kill police with axes.

The Daily Herald reports the man burst into the neighbor’s room armed at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Edmonds Police Sgt. Shame Hawley says when police arrived the 35-year-old man had retreated to his room, barricaded the door and in the next two hours destroyed it.

Hawley says the man hurled a stove and water heater through the window, dismantled a toilet and threw chucks of porcelain at officers.

Police say the man while holding an axe shouted to police that he’d cut their necks.

Police say officers eventually used rubber projectiles to subdue the man who was taken to a hospital for self-inflicted cuts.

Police expected to book him into jail on multiple charges.
