BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Efforts to restore Buffalo’s historic Central Terminal are getting a boost from the state.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday that the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation will receive $5 million in state funding to help make the concourse functional for community and private use.

The western New York train station closed in 1979 after a half-century in operation. The property features the old station and its 17-story art deco-style tower. Both were abandoned and left to deteriorate before local preservationists stepped in.

The restoration corporation says the goal is to reuse the entire 18-acre site with a focus on restoring the art deco tower.
