Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said Monday he was back to work and feeling grateful after a brief hospital stay for a minor infection.

Mr. Azar used Twitter to thank doctors and nurses who provided “excellent care” during a one-night stay at St. Vincent Indianapolis.

“Also thankful for my wife, who insisted that I call my primary care doctor when I wasn’t feeling well. Glad to be back at work for the American people,” he tweeted.

The secretary served as an executive with Eli Lilly USA in Indiana before taking the HHS post, so he returns to visit his family on weekends.

HHS late Sunday said the secretary was admitted to the hospital and being treated with intravenous antibiotics.

“Out of an abundance of caution he has been admitted to a hospital for observation,” the agency said.

The agency did not offer any details about the nature of the infection.

On Monday, HHS said the secretary had been “fully functional” during his hospital stay and in contact with senior HHS leadership. He will return to his D.C. office Tuesday.
