STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - The attorney for a Connecticut man charged with killing his girlfriend is trying to get his confession to police thrown out because his client can’t remember talking to detectives.
The Stamford Advocate reports that attorney Allen Williams says 48-year-old Bertony Thompson was incapable of voluntarily waiving his constitutional rights for the interview.
Williams will argue the motion to throw out the confession Wednesday.
Thompson is facing a murder charge in the 2014 death of 62-year-old Jacalyn Silverman in their Norwalk apartment.
Police say Thompson told investigators the two “got into a tussle” over his drinking. Thompson was found sleeping next to the woman’s dead body. An autopsy indicated Silverman had been strangled.
Thompson faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
