DENVER (AP) - A former airman at Buckley Air Force Base has been sentenced to four years in prison for accidentally shooting and killing his wife while they were playing with a handgun.

KUSA-TV reported Tuesday that 21-year-old Brian Lebron-Rivera was sentenced after pleading guilty to reckless manslaughter in connection with the death of 20-year-old Genesis Rodriquez.

Lebron-Rivera called police in August 2016 and told them he had shot his wife and she was dead. He told investigators he had been training his wife how to react if someone had a weapon.

Officers found Rodriguez dead at the scene.

Lebron-Rivera was an Airman First Class in the 460th Security Forces Squadron.
