ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Aspen-area sheriff’s deputies and emergency dispatchers are undergoing lessons to learn how to approach high-stress situations in a productive way that will not lead to burn out.
The Aspen Times reported Thursday that the “mindfulness” pilot program will help 16 members of the Pitkin County sheriff’s deputies and emergency dispatchers deal with stressful situations and cope with the aftermath.
Pitkin County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center Director Brett Loeb says he wanted them to partake in the program to address work-related trauma and “compassion fatigue.”
He says the program teaches participants to accept that they did their best and not second guess their actions or beat themselves up over the final outcomes.
The county is paying $2,500 for 16 people to take the 8-week program.
